WELCOME TO SHARONVILLE

My debut novel
When young History professor, Toni Sorrentino, crashes her pick up in the Arizona desert a few days after 9/11 and falls into a coma, long-buried secrets are unearthed in her small home town of Sharonville. Most affected is her guardian, binge-eating Italian restaurateur, Uncle Franco, who now has to face the lies he’s fed Toni her whole life.

However, as Uncle Franco embarks on a quest to wake Toni from unconsciousness and tell her the truth, many others in Sharonville’s close community find their own pasts brought to light in a which guarantees that they, and the town itself, will never be the same again.

LONGLISTED FOR THE GUARDIAN FIRST BOOK AWARD

I enjoyed Welcome to Sharonville as much as Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch – perhaps there was a resonance because of the desert setting, but Zink also dusts her prose with breathtaking turns of phrase, equally as good as hers. LORNA HOWARTH
